Postcards: Wish It Were Sunday

Looks like it's officially Rain-uary as we make way for the torrential downpour that's in store for us the next few weeks.

This photo was taken last Sunday at 4:30pm... Hard to believe it was only two days ago when it was absolutely gorgeous out...

Postcards From Vancouver: Breaking Bad edition

I haven't posted a Postcard from Vancouver in a long time, but I came across this washroom sign up at UBC the other day and just had to snap a photo. For all you Breaking Bad & Heisenberg fans out there...

My visit to Storybrooke

I was inspired to do this post after attending the wrap party for the ABC show, Once Upon a Time, this past weekend. The wrap party was awesome! Several of the cast members were on hand, including Jennifer Morrison who plays Emma Swan, Jared Gilmore who plays Henry, Colin O'Donoghue who plays the sexy Captain Hook, Sean Maguire who is equally as sexy as Robin Hood, and several of the dwarves were around too including Lee Arenberg (Grumpy) who was pointed out to me as also being Mike the Bookie on Seinfeld! How cool is that?

In line at the bar was Rebecca Mader, who was the gloriously awesome Zelena, aka the Wicked Witch of the West, and whom I totally fanboyed over. I told her I loved how she portrayed Zelena and that I also liked her work on LOST (she played Charlotte!!). She was VERY nice and talked to me for a few minutes, and even gave me a Wicked Witch cackle to remember! :)

Anyhow, some of you might know that they film this TV show here in Vancouver, or more specifically out in the town of Steveston, which is a 30 minute drive away. I had visited the location a summer or two ago and took some pictures, but never did post them up. So here they are! Scenes from the actual Storybrooke!

I think I took some more photos but they weren't very good, and these are the only ones halfway decent. Things look a lot cooler on TV, that's for sure! But Steveston is a very quaint little town with fun businesses to check out, including fish and chips stores, ice cream shops, and my friend's wine and cheese restaurant, Gudrun. Check it out!

Postcards: Movie Night in Stanley Park

(taken on my iPhone 5 and Instagrammed)

Last night's free outdoor movie in Stanley Park was Mama Mia, a family friendly good-times musical, so the kids were all out in full force. Too bad the trailer for next week's film was Poltergeist, causing them major trauma and therapy for years to come!

Check out VanCityBuzz for a full listing of outdoor movie nights in Vancouver!

Postcard: Bumblebee

Here's a bumblebee gathering pollen from a St. John's Wort flower. Check out the big sacs of pollen he's carrying!

Postcards: Bowen Island

I went for a visit to Bowen Island this weekend. It's only a 20 minute ferry ride away from the mainland, and it's absolutely stunning and peaceful and scenic over there. Here's one shot I took with my phone, that really doesn't even begin to do the view justice.

Tis the season. Here's a snapshot of the front of St. Paul's Hospital with their annual display of the Lights of Hope, which represents all the donors who have given gifts to the hospital this year.

Here are some photos I took with my iPhone from inside BC Place last weekend at the BC Lions game. It was a gorgeous sunny day out and they had the roof open.

Postcards: Canucks and Pride

Here's a photo I snapped with my phone from the Pride Parade on the weekend. Manny Malhotra and Jason Garrison became the first Canucks players to ever march in the Vancouver Pride Parade. Congratulations, guys! And thank you! Also in attendance was Canucks' mascot Fin!

It was really awesome to see the Cancuks take part in the Pride Parade. They have a huge following and so this kind of support that they lent to the community meant a lot to everyone, especially those fighting against intolerance and bullying. Thank you Canucks!!

Postcards: Powell Street Festival

I checked out the Powell Street Festival this past weekend and like clockwork, the line-ups for the food were super long - a testament to how good the food is at this annual celebration of the Japanese Canadian community. My favourite food is the Imagawayaki, which are kinda like these pimped out pancakes stuffed with either red or black bean paste inside. Delicious!!

Postcards: English Bay

Finally, summer has arrived in Vancouver!

How have you been spending the past few days of sunshine?

The other night, I went down to English Bay with some friends and caught the sunset. It was glorious. Looking forward to more summer nights ahead!! Here are some photos I took on my iPhone:

Postcards: Water Fountain at Bentall One

Today's Vancouver postcard features a water fountain that I walk by everyday, but know absolutely nothing about, other than it looks pretty cool! Does anyone else out there know some more about this water fountain in front of the Bentall One tower (located by Pender and Burrard, in downtown Vancouver)?
